Bottom part of potato stem (see photos) completely collapsed and dried, but leaves have not lost turgor. What could be the reason?
The rapid collapse of parenchyma in the stem of a potato plant is often caused by bacterial soft rot, primarily due to Pectobacterium or Dickeya species, which degrade cell walls and lead to tissue breakdown.
