I am currently trying to make a low-valent tantalum(I) complexes. However, many reports utilized the reduction of tantalum(V) or (III) by sodium amalgam. I would avoid the use because of the toxicity and unavailability.

Here I'd like to ask for help: what would you use as an alternative of Na(Hg)?

Maybe both the reducing ability and the dispersity of the metal are important...
