We invite you to participate in our survey on authorship (takes about 5 min). The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors requires that all authors approve the final document and agree to be held accountable for it.  Together with these two conditions, we ask you to rate other research activities within five broad categories whose contribution you gauge sufficient to warrant authorship:

    Supervision;

    Experimental design;

    Generating, manipulating, analyzing samples;

    Interpreting data; and,

    Preparing manuscripts.

For example, supervision includes preparing grant proposals but does the time dedicated to writing them constitute sufficient intellectual involvement to be considered an author? We model the survey after work of the National Institutes of Health. (For more info, consult http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/cjce.22479/full).
