What clustering variable method should I use before setting up a PLS path modeling analysis to obtain coherent latent variables?

I want to obtain coherent latent variables for my PLS-PM analysis. Is there a statistical method allowing clustering variables into coherent clusters ? Shoud I use VARCLUS procedure, ClustOfVar package of R or may I lead a PCA followed by a HAC ? What are the main differences between them in my case ? Thanks
