Interesting video you shared. Although there are several upstream studies in ecology like in other scientific fields, I still see many that do not necessarily deal with upstream issues. We need to streamline upstream issues in every research so that contributions are more relevant.
In addition, team work involving different expertise in conducting various research activities should be encouraged with the view to comprehensively tackle upstream issues.

I think, Dr. Rishi is doing his way as a research doctor, rather than a physician doctor who is educated to deal only with the upstream symptoms, not the root cause of the sickness. So, if one position himself as a researches, then one should go to find the root. And this is the way, to do something noble and innovative.
Now the question is how can make a good collaborative project?
There is many ideas ignored by researchers for some reasons for i.e ideas come from a bachelor of science.
What can we do?
Some of them are very great idea.
