Tungsten carbide nanopowders under examination were identified by a residual amount of carbon, with the characteristic D and G bands.
However, the peak at 2000 cm-1 is rarely found in carbon containing compounds.
Can it be an overtone of the band located around 990 cm-1?
Hi Isacco Mazo , the peak at 990 cm-1 (or around 990 - it can be also at 987 cm-1, it depends on Raman calibration) is bothering me too, moreover I have found this peak at surface of ZrO2 sample!! But this peak disappeared as I focused deeper below the sample surface.
I think that this peak is just some carbon oxide (maybe carbon dioxide) adsorbed at our samples surface. It belongs the most probably to the stretching vibration of O–C.

Ok and thanks for info Isacco Mazo . I checked the paper, you mentioned (Article Characterisation of the Chemical Composition and Structural ...
) and It is interesting, that peak at 990 cm-1 can be observed for AMNP1 sample but not in case of AMNP2 sample. Both types of samples are prepared by the same thermal plasma method. We can guess if it was a carbon residue from the synthesis, however FTIR would probably rule it out.. I have plan to work more deeply with Raman and ZrO2 samples in few months, then I will be hopefully more clever and can to let you know.Have a nice day, JK.
