Can anyone recommend the 4-5 MUST READ books on Wassily Kandinsky? I already have his 'Concerning the Spiritual in Art'. I am especially interested in studies on either the theological and/or existential aspects of his work.
There are a number of good essays in the exhibition catalog for "The Spiritual in Art: Abstract Painting 1890-1985." The exhibit was at LACMA some years ago. Still good essays there. Mark C. Taylor's "Disfiguring" has a good chapter that deals with the theological components of K (and Mondrian et al).
Other theological oriented scholars dealing w/ K include Richard Viladesau, William Dyrness, and I'm sure John Dillenberger and Jane Dillenberger both dealt with K at some points.
