the image an organisation has before the public is very important in determing its operational success. what methods are currently available for use in building and sustaining positive corporate image?
The corporate image building for the communities are important for their reputation mostly through their vision. The adoption of clear and standard procedure from procurement to process to outputs which it adopts without harming the interest of public. Every corporate tries to maximize the profits, but the reputation of corporate depends on how justified they are to their supplier, employers and buyers. You can build brands within a few year using various mediums but to sustain you need to have acceptance based on your commitments. In addition, certain social responsibilities which supports larger public good needs to taken in order to assist the public i.e. civil as well as governments in achieving desired social goals. A good corporate must understand their position visa vis others in order to balance the extraction, supply chain to the negative externalizations which may inculcate during their operations. Corporate actions through responsible policies which provides for the directions in the image building.
A corporation should be demonstrate environmental and social responsibility in all that they do. These are two important aspects to build a positive corporate image.
I would like to add from a financial point of view that disclosure policy is important. You have to be as transparent as possible. You must not inflate your earnings with accruals or you may not use real earnings management ( For example, selling an asset with profit on purpose) to be in accordance with financial analyst's forecasts. In case of information asymmetry you must not send false signals (increasing dividends without being able to siustain this new level of dividend-pay-out). You may also have to repay the loans in due time and to comply to covenants. If not, you may incur some penalties from the market (your rating may be downgraded), and the share price will go down, because the market participants will have no more confidence in your reporting. With stereotypical portrayals in advertisements, example men in office settings and women in hoe setting, consumers might have a positive attitude to a brand that breaks such norm. Imagine seeing a pregnant woman in an office setting or as part of directors' photograph in the annual report.
Social responsibility can be dekonstrated externally toward customers ana local community and internally toward employees. We did some research on that, available on RG in my project " social responsibility".
