Soft skills are really very essential to grow.In Digital world, it seems to be difficult to exactly define the nature of soft skills.
for digital professionals who don't have a very strong tech background, being able to bridge the senior management and digital/marketing function gap might be somewhere you could tap into. nowadays most people even the management can talk about let's go digital/ content is king this kind of things, but there has to be someone who can connect the dots, contextualize the need and solutions, get internal buy-in, and then implement what's agreed/needed.
in terms of actually being part of the digital business/marketing operations, let's not forget the human factor is still key, e.g. interpret data which tells consumer behaviors and preference, spotting the right angle/key message which your content could move your audience to action, etc
