How administration personal or pressure groups of teachers or politicians effects higher education?
In our region, the truth of the state of affairs is that political intervention in the higher education covers the process from A to Z in these days. In the past, the big "boss" & those around him/her were appointed on the basis of loyalty to the government but now the political effect extended to cover all employees. The scholars in a typical university are divided into categories according to affiliations, families, and even towns of origin. The consequences of this intrusion is very negative indeed. However, you will find the media talking about progress & achievements while ,in reality, there is a sharp decline as days go by.
Group of power politicians set up a number of schools & colleges in collaboration with moneyed groups.They then arm twist the education department in passing out more than enough number of higher secondary students, so that they can fill up the seats in colleges. Buying & selling of schools & colleges is a total commercial venture. The only moot point is so far none of them is listed on the stock exchanges, so far.
Teachers in some private schools have to work for the politician who owns the school,especially during & before his election - full time.Education is given a go & the morality during this period is at its lowest ebb for the poor teacher.
Even the state government will shift a number of teaching faculty in some professional colleges during accreditation of the college. Not only that - private professionals are paid lump sum to be present for a day or two for the accreditation - just to show that the college has the full faculty. If the state govt. can do this, one can imagine what the politicians can do.
Teachers & scientists in my area have a tendency to work only in cities or in towns - not in rural areas.They would never try to submit research proposals for rural areas, with the result, they remain out of touch with the rural realities,rural resources & their real problems. There is an understanding among them to pass one another's proposals during the crucial meetings - for the proposals that are centered in cities & towns.
pressure and politics should remain away from these nobel profession of teaching,at the same time it should help in developing the Departments,faculties and good help for research activities.this may lead to healthy approach and growth in the field.the imact and the role should be positive and progressive to lead to healthy society.
