My institution has recently requested our research team to perform a meta-analysis on a random topic related to finances/economy and drug market. Having our previous work done in a dramatically discrepant field, we are unfortunately unaware of the modern trends/common themes of research on the given topics. We would highly appreciate any possible input on a potential topic to direct our research: what are the recent trends of studies in the field of drug economy/marketing?
Consider the concept of indirect treatment comparison methods for the safety, efficacy, and pharmacoeconomic value (quality/cost) evaluation of alternative pharmaceutical therapeutic options when head to head randomized controlled trials are unavailable. Appropriate indirect treatment comparison methods include adjusted indirect treatment comparison or Bucher ITC and network meta-analysis or Bayesian NMA. Health Technology Assessment agencies throughout the developed nations of the world outside the US accept these methods as part of the new molecular entity pharmaceutical submission when seeking commercial approval of safety, efficacy, and pharmacoeconomic value (quality/cost).
Roger Bishop, that is very insightful! I would personally take a slightly different approach for the pharmacoeconomic value. Traditionally we have focused on one disease at a time and thrown everything we can at it until something stuck, hence the 1/100 pipeline mentality. What Robert is suggesting is brilliant utilizing metadata analysis of various diseases and run deep learning/neural networks looking at site specific locations for small molecules and/or macro-molecules. End of the day we need to be smarter in the way we do development, and get away from the current system of extending patents just to make a few extra $$
