Does anybody know an estimation method for calculating the prevalence of a given risk factor among general population, given that the odds ratio/relative risk, the prevalence of the risk factor among diseased and the prevalence of the disease are available?
because exposure odds ratio = disease odds ratio, prev exposure in diseased/ prev exp in non diseased = OR, so prev exp in non diseased = prev exp in diseased/OR.
with rare disease assumption, prev exp in non diseased approximately equals =
prevalence exposure in total population
Why would one imply that the odds ratios (or did you mean odds?) of diseased and exposed are equal?
