The tomato leafminer, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelichiidae), is a serious pest of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) cultivations (EPPO, 2005). It originates from South America and has only recently been introduced to the Mediterranean region. More recently, T. absoluta has also become a serious threat to tomato production in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, causing great concern among the plant protection agencies in the countries where it has been found.
