I need to run weight loss measurements for steel samples with diameter of 2.5 cm and thickness of 0.2 cm in 1 M H2SO4, I have read many references but can not get the proper solution volume and time period or intervals for the experiments, can you help in this?!
I would recommend for you the "Standard Practice for Laboratory Immersion Corrosion Testing of Metals ASTM-G 31" as the item 8.9 clearly discuss the volume of test solution and then the item 8.11 discuss duration of test. hope you go through to standardize your work.

Thanks a lot Dr Mohammed, it still a bit confusing for me, I have read procedures in papers that published in top journals say 3 h immersion time was used!
Is it necessary to go to the planned interval test?!
The other point is, my samples are cylindrical with diameter of 2.5 cm and thickness of 0.2 cm, which means the exposure area is a bit more than 10 cm2 so I concluded that I have to use at least 200 ml of the solution with and without the inhibitors under test however this is not the case in the publication and even in the example shown in Table 1(item 8.11)!
I hope that you consider I am synthetic chemist and working on the design and synthesis of organic inhibitors that is why I am asking about such points! thanks in advance for any further assistance!
The proper time is 6 hours and the volume of the solution is 100 ml to be enough to immerse your sample completely in the solution. It must be done a reflux system using a thermostated water bath to be the volume of the solution fixed at high temperatures. the sample must be hanged freely in the solution, so that all the surfaces of the metal are exposed to the acidic solution.

What you mentioned is close to what most researchers describe in the publications, however, it seems to me that this dose not meet the ASTM standards!
