If you rely on secondary sources, indirectly, it means you are going to copy a lot. As such, you will keep on repeating what has been written already. Relying on the secondary sources is also an evidence that there may be little or no novelty in your research/writing. I will advise you to have at least 70 per cent of your cited works from primary sources.
Whenever possible, we should cite the article's origin and avoid secondary sources. This procedure shows that the researcher was concerned with the quality of his sources.
You should always try to read and cite the original work (the primary source). If it is not possible to do this, you have to cite the original as contained in the secondary source.
