I think we need to optimize the ML and robotics for the current system in successful way such as there are many place we need to replace human such as harmful conditions.
for the case of ML we need to go with fast hardware or other kind of architecture for the ML it self.
There are still many areas still research is going such as machine vision, Natural language processing, Applications of ML in Medicines, Economics, Business, and so on...

The development of robotics, machine learning and artificial intelligence have proven in many areas -Medical Centers, Coal mining (not to mistake with Data Mining), water management, site surveying.
Drones are an application of AI and are used in mining of coals, measuring dams (water management), to optimize blast planning and reaching medicines and first aid in remote and unreachable areas, and regular site or land survey.
Robotics can be used for performing certain sequence of actions and can replace certain human services like lifting the patients, moving heavy objects, and many more services- data entry operations where data can be secured. As humans are prone to leakage of information or errors.
Robotics can be used for cybersecurity issues.
AI is used for spotting phishing attacks, malware detection and blocking brute-force intrusions.
Automated car driving is yet another application of AI. And proves to be successful.
But for sure certain services where human intelligence is used and necessary that robots cannot replace as they can perform fixed set of tasks.

Robotics are used in health sector, catering business (Big Restaurant), manufacturing the product and packing the product, supermarkets and NASA- to explore space.
Drones (Nano Robotics) are used in emergency issues where human cannot reach- health sector, Mining, gathering data for weather forecasting.
Sophia, a humanoid robot helps in conversation.
the research area in robotics focused on health and rescue nowadays. such as controlling prosthetic by using EEG signals for disabled people. Additionally , IoT also infused with robotics , in other words remote monitoring and tracking to achieve autonomously controlled systems with assistance of cloud and servers and so on
