Yes, when the editor who holds the fate of your manuscript in his/her hands says to do something, you generally pay attention (even if it's to explain that their view might not be universally perceived as correct).

I would perhaps say that it is desirable rather than necessary. Common method bias is a problem in almost every study because the study collects data by, well, a method common to all participants. You could mention this in the limitations section, and propose this as a question for future research, but the reviewer seems to be trying to ask you to do a further study, and you must be careful not to fall into the trap. Your task is publishing what you have learned from this study, which includes discussing what you might have done differently in hindsight, and what needs to be done next.
