I am going to add different amendments to soil in order to increase soil water capacity. Can you introduce me some new methods and amendments for this purpose?
You did not give any clue as to what the texture of the soil you intend to amend is like. However, addition of some quantity of cohesive (fine grained) soil e.g. clays will enhance the capacity of the soil.
I can recommend the construction of soil using the technique of suspension water (cut off by gravelly screen) and and increasing water holding capacity of soil by organic modifiers (peat, hydrogels). See attached publications.
as a practical option, just improve the soil texture by adding some soil having high clay % externally. also, continues addition of organic amendments increase the AW of soil. For laboratory level experiment, reduce the soil temperature after adding organic matters, then OM will be remain longer.
Dear Mohammed , I want you to think about:- Human wastes are trient-rich, spreading sludge on land is cheaper for communities than some other methods of treatment and disposal. If your local community will make it available to farmers, ask about the source and content of the sludge. Contaminants such as heavy metals are an important concern to investigate and test for.
Also, processing wastes, vegetable processing plants, wood processing plants, breweries, and other industries generate organic wastes that can be useful soil amendments.
