However, due to good potential of rivers, the main load is targeted to be met by Hydro plants and pumped hydro storage facilities. Can anyone picture the negative points of such a scheme?
The following are some negative aspects of the use of hydropower for electricity generation:
1- The construction of large hydropower plant cause serious geological damage and the disruption of aquatic ecosystems.
2- The construction of large hydropower plants needs a large area, cause a great change in the environment, disruption of animal and plant life, the movement of great number of people, among others.
3- The construction of large hydropower plants need significant initial capital investment.
5- The construction of large hydropower plants can cause great concerns about the safety of the dams associated with the plant
6- In case of drought, a hydropower plant cannot generate electricity and for this reason can cause a significant disruption of the supply of electricity to the electrical grid.
