What are the methods to identify qualitatively, and quantitatively, the bacterial community of samples?

I do not wish to use the time-consuming cloning/sequencing methods or costly 454 GS platform. The Ion Torrent PGM technology seems to offer modest set-up and running costs. What are your experiences?

Sequencing by Sanger all 16S RNA. You can use universal primers and you will have a good overview of the bacterial community.
