A prospective masters student is willing to do hydrological modeling applied to oil pollution. In Northern Canada, pipelines are everywhere, and the risk of a leak or a spill reaching the river network is assumed to be fairly high. The need for the assessment of this risk is therefore pressing.
However, we've been unable to find references or models that refer to a similar issue, which would be helpful to do this work. Do you guys have anything to share on this topic?

In 1983, we had a truck spill associated with the spruce budworm project with Sevin-4-oil mix (pesticide mix with diesel) into Willow Creek. Its part of our 1984 writeup on Researchgate. Not pipeline spill, but may have some meaning or help as to effects to riverine system. I have also seen a couple instances where channel erosion (degradation) has occurred and exposed pipeline, and excessive road access drainage not diverted, resulting in gully degradation and pipe exposure. Not my expertise, but a worthy subject to try to address. Not sure to what degree that oil companies would share their info on spill frequencies, but since seldom in the news, the risk might not be as high as one might think, but damages would be severe and newsworthy if a spill reaches headwater or riverine systems, and the news comes out on fish kills, fouled water supplies, etc.
