Post Covid 19 the scenario in India has changed and some of the private insurance companies are providing coverages for mental disorders. So My question is what mental disorders are covered in different countries?
In the Netherlands treament for most DSM mental disorders (adjustment disorders, NAO disorders etc mostly excluded) is insured ( insurance is obligated for Dutch citizen)
Everyone has to pay a single first fine of 385 euros and afterwards all is paid by the insurance.
Only mental disorders can be treated in the medical mental health care system. Treatment of psychological problems - without a mental DSM disorder are not insured
Treatment of these problems can be reimbursed within the general practitioner care, if necessary with the support of the mental health practice nurse and is insured.
Mental health packages are present in Ayushman Bharat , the flagship program of the Government of India which includes OPDs, blood tests, ECT,MRI,CT scan and also hospitalization in the empaneled hospitals.
High income countries like germany, UK, Australia and many have insurance coverages for mental disorders.
So I would like to know about mental health insurance policies in middle income and low income countries.
Mental Health Care Act, 2017 of India mandates that “Every person with mental illness shall be treated as equal to persons with physical illness in the provisions of all health care. 3 years have passed, but unfortunately still there is no policy for mentally ill patients from insurers. Lack of research policy making, and moreover remain undebatable all the time.
National Insurance company , oriental insurance , HDFC ERGO, MAX BUPA, Aditya birla - they are providing insurance for mental illness only if there is hospitalization. But more clarity is required on waiting period, specific which mental illness is covered.
