We all know that data is very important in decision making processes, and also it's obvious that row data can not lead to a precise decision.
Operations Research (OR) can help transform the data to useful information by which accurate decisions can be made. Decision Support Systems are good examples in which this transformation and process of making accurate decisions occur.
Health care problems have attracted too much attention and researchers are using OR tools to solve them.
Now a critical question is: What are the main trends of using operations research tools in healthcare problems?

DEA and Stochastic frontier analysis can be use to measure technical and cost efficiency of healthcare institutions. Comparing the results is also useful.

If you consider machine learning, especially deep learning, to be part of Operations Research, then I would say that is where a lot of healthcare activity is occuring.
It is interesting that the most recent developments in areas usually associated with multivariate statistical analysis, such as categorization and prediction, have come not from statisticians but from machine learning (CHAID, Random Forests, deep learning etc.) and chemometrics (partial linear regression, multivariate adaptive regression splines).
Another area where medical data analysis is benefitting from advanced mathematical techniques is the use of transforms, such as the Hilbert/Huang Transform that permit analysis of biometric time series that are non-stationary and non-linear.
In short, mathematical analysis and modelling is being used increasingly in the healthcare field.
