I am interested to know what will happen if two reactors are operated in parallel (the idea is separate HDO and HC). Also I was wondering if the operation condition (i.e. pressure and temperature ) in reactor A and B will differ each other. Can anyone would like to share the challenge of the reactor design? And it possible to separated water coming from reactor A (HDO) prior to second reactor B (HC)? I would appreciate for your kindness and helpful. Thank you

Dear Peter, you are not giving much details here, I carry reactive flow being homogenous or hetro, two and three phases as these problems applied to immiscible fluids in well-stirred batch or continuous biodiesel reactor and trickle bed reactor and for discrete particle gasification such as bubbling bed or entrained flow gasiefier. The term parallel is typically implies independent or similar condition of each reactor with no interaction. Provide me more info to help you.
Dear Isam, thanks for your comments, well, the parallel trickle flow reactors are in continuous phase, means homogeneous reaction (i.e. gaseous and liquid ) supposed to operated in continuously flow.

If you have two reactors operating in series and you split them up into two parallel trains and also split the feed so half goes to each train you will have lower mass velocity and therefore lower pressure drop but you are also may have poorer catalyst contacting which is effectively the same poorer catalyst activity.
Of course there is a lot more to a process than just a reactor. The original configuration probably also has a separator drum or two and possibly recycle H2 and fractionation. Will these functions still be common?
I think I need more details to see if this is a reasonable idea but is you have two separate feeds currently going to the same reactors that would benefit from two separate types of catalyst it is possible that operating the reactors in parallel with different feed and different catalyst could be beneficial. You probably will need some new equipment (pumps, control system etc?) to accomplish what you are proposing

Why not use pressure swing system while operating in parallel. This will ensure optimal usage and conversion in each stage.
As far as removal of water is concerned; you can go for reactive separation if water is not needed in the downstream section. If not physical methods need to be implemented.
