Most construction work is covered by construction contracts and that is why they represent a crucial component of the construction process. It is fully acknowledged that a successful contract completion is a normal outcome of its proper administration. Contract administration in construction involves the timely flow of informationand decisions making to enable projectcompletion as required by the contract documents. This is important to the owner and consultant not only to determine that the work is proceeding in conformity with the contract documents, but also because it allows a final opportunity to detect any inaccuracies, ambiguities or inconsistencies in the design.
I had to deal with construction contracts in a professional capacity several times. There were many learnings about construction contract risks, which I ended up summarizing in the attached paper. A very fair summary.
Construction contracts are the heart of the project and the correct administration of them is directly attributed to the success each stakeholder realises at completion. My theory is that the human element of formulating and administrating the construction contract must be minimised to optimise the process.
I am developing a framework for the successful implementation of intelligent automated contracts in the construction industry. My proposed PhD thesis explores the question of how best to execute intelligent contracts that bring automation to the industry at its core and supply efficiency and value that would force the industry into collaboration out of necessity rather than appeal.

One of the important challenges of CCA is the qualification of the person selected to do this job. The process itself has lots of follow up requirements before and during construction, which requires contract administrators to be are knowledgeable and experienced.
Another important challenge is to convince the owner with the importance of CCA and make him pay for this additional service and include it in the project agreement.
