The core theme is the gradual process of operationally defining the laws of contiguity, effect, and observational learning. Three generations of social behaviorists have disputed whether 1, 2, or 3 factors are necessary to encompass social activity. The tacit agreement on functional feedback is historical evidence that the clinical and experimental traditions may have found their paradigm in an "evolutionary behaviorism" based on all 3 factors in the post-Darwinian psychologies of James, Freud, and Piaget.

ABSTRACT Recent study of consciousness provides an evidence that there is a limit of consciousness, which presents a barrier between conscious and unconscious processes. This barrier likely is specifically manifested as a disturbance of neural mechanisms of consciousness that through distributed brain processing, attentional mechanisms and memory processes enable to constitute integrative conscious experience. According to recent findings a level of conscious integration may change during certain conditions related to experimental cognitive manipulations, hypnosis, or stressful experiences that can lead to dissociation of consciousness. In psychopathological research the term dissociation was proposed by Pierre Janet for explanation of processes related to splitting of consciousness due to traumatic events or during hypnosis. According to several recent findings dissociation of consciousness likely is related to deficits in global distribution of information and may lead to heightened levels of "neural complexity" that reflects brain integration or differentiation based on numbers of independent neural processes in the brain that may be specifically related to various mental disorders.

Hi,

I have written a recent article making the case that classic psychoanalysis can best approximate extinction of aversive stimuli. The argument is as follows: Recent bio/psych research establishes that extinction can never be fully achieved, but that it can be best approximated by diverse cases of "safe-here" and "safe-now" trials. I make the claim that the multiple transferences experienced in classical psychoanalysis come closer than other treatments in providing these multiple contexts and therefore is paradoxically a biological as well as psychological treatment.

Consciousness can be seen as the continual retrieval of thought and behaviour outputs that is driven by implicit processing, including implicit affective processing, which occur before any conscious experience. These implicit processes are determined by glia regulation of neuronal activity, with glia being CNS 'immune-type' cells. This links to a wider conceptualization of neuronal activity as a form of immune to immune communication. Recent research on a host of classical brain conditions highlights the importance of immune, including glia, processes. Given that immune cells form the ultimate narcissistic system (kill non-self), consciousness can be seen as a repeating fractal of narcissism driven by immune systems.

Attempt of a most general description, how any kind of psychotherapy works:

in every persons body, mind and/or nervous system  there are memories of experiences, that have more or less or no connections among themselves and with consciousness, as a result of filter mechanisms which exist to protect overtaxing. Mental illness that needs treatment is a result of missing necessary connections or missing differentiation. Psychotherapy does with talking and experience what surgeons do with scalpel and stitches: make a difference where there was none before or establish connections where there were none before.

As cells regenerate more slowly with increasing age, to establish new (or restore broken or lost) connections needs more repetitions and patience with increasing age.
