when we talk of leadership it is implied that he needs to deal multi-generational workforce specifically when it is a medium or big organizations. Even while dealing with same people in similar situations he requires to use /reflect his capabilities/ behavior differently. for example, in armed forces across the globe perform their functions strictly in accordance with SOP and any deviation are dealt seriously, however, when, they are working in wartime/emergency, it is essential for the leadership to maintain high level of motivation among their men and in such case dealing with same hand may not be useful. In other word, leadership actions are largely dependent role responsibilities and qualification & experience of the team members, work environment under which they operates, their past performance, training etc., which is irrespective of age group.

I think the most important capability or behavior a leader need to lead a multi-generational team is openness towards different values and attitudes.

Generational gap is a complex issue in terms of providing effective leadership to a multi-generational team. Generally values and attitudes differ generation to generation. Leader should have the capability to take individualistic approach in this case. To do so the leader can create multiple categories about individual perceptual patterns. Then he or she can put weight on those categories for each of his or her teammates. In this way the leader can find out the generation specific differences. After that the leader should select his or her own leadership style such as directive, supportive, participative, and motivative etc. For each of the respective generation.
