Which several key considerations and steps should be involved for developing a GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) method for the detection of mycotoxins?
Hello, I agree with Bruce. If you have to developed a new method for determine mycotoxins start with LC-MS. But, if you have to used GC you should know that in this case there ara more steps to perform, such as sample derivatization because mycotoxins are analytes with high molecular weight. Another hing is te use of internal standard. The injected volume in GC use to smaller that in LC so, an internal standar helps to correct the variability of injection, but find a good one sometimes is difficult or expensive.
Agree LC-MS is the most suitable method (actually LC-MS/MS). But the most important one is which mycotoxins you would like to analyse : aflatoxins; ochratoxin, fumonisins, zearalenone, deoxynivalenol ... ?
