In Powder Coating Industry, Is there any equation that relates physical properties of chips (granules of thermosetting polymer, i.e, extrudate that has been cooled and crushed) such as dimensions and hardness to parameters of "Impact classifier Mill"?
Parameters including:
1) Rotor Speed
2) Feed Rate
3) Air Flow
4) Classifier Speed
5) Torque
And how this will affect the Particle Size Distribution of produces powder.
There are many factors at play here, including:
Input size of granules - this is likely a spread, the path / dwell time will be different for differnt sizes
Temperature of granules feedstock, the mill rotor and screen, and ambient / cooling for mill.
Fracture properties of the polymer at a given termperatures - there is probably an equation for this
Speed and diameter of the rotor.
Hammer size and ridge profile of the line / ring
Screen area and hole size (for a lab type mill) in the case of a production mill it will depend on how the classifer is set, controlled and how efficient it actually is ...
Essentially you are looking to resolve, dwell time, temperature and the "work required" to reduce the particle from input to output.
You will need to devise a complex modelling equation. Some of the above factors may be able to be ignored as they may tend to zero effect. The equation will likely not scale easily from a lab unit to production system, sadly.
