I'm working on some sort of adaptive controller which can be used for control of nonlinear plants, time-varying plants or uncertain plants. The method track the plant changes in real-time with minimal knowledge about the plant. I'm looking for appropriate plants to implement it and have a collaborative research.
I think you would find those sorts of characteristics in most plants you would want to control in practice.
Take a simple brushed DC motor I was playing with recently, which is modelled well as a 1st order system, but ...
1) The control command signal is limited to 0-5 V
2) The motor won't start spinning with anything less than 1 V
3) The motor "flat-lines" at around 250 rps, and refuses to go any faster, no matter what the input voltage is.
4) I think the characteristics of the motor have changed over time, as I (ab)use it more.
