Arid Ghaggar-flood plains of north western India, which is traditionally not a rice growing region, has started growing during the late 1975 when canal network was brought in this region. As a result these areas are converted from their traditional crops (pearl millet, pulses and oilseeds) to the rice based systems. I need to know the long term effect rice cultivation on soil salinity in hot arid environment.
