I was wondering if different OD matrix on a signalized intersection would affect the performance of an algorithm (reinforcement learning, heuristic, model based) for adaptive traffic signal control compared to the fixed or actuated timing plan. This was a debate between me and my colleagues on algorithms for adaptive traffic signal control and the factors that would change the performance of each of these algorithms.

An OD matrix is a model. The first question is how the adaptive traffic control responds to traffic changes - does it have detectors, or only uses an OD matrix? How close is the OD matrix and its fluctuations to real traffic? You first have to define the dependencies, and then think about relations.
The adaptive traffic control responds to changes via detectors. the OD matrix only define the profile of the mouvements.
