In most of Universities, in the end of each year or course, they conduct a survey filled by the students to evaluate the performance of the lecturer, what are the dimensions or parameters to evaluate their perception on this process?
I am not sure that instructor evaluations form a classic "construct". In fact, here at the University of Michigan, instructors can add quite a few additional questions to the evaluation that the students will respond to.
That said, here are are few points that are given as to what the evaluation in intended to accomplish (see also the link from U of M, however it may differ for other universities):
Instructional Delivery (including quality, amount, and level of classroom instruction)
Course Planning (including development of course materials, course revision, development of new courses)
Grading and Assessing Student Learning (including appropriate level of assignments, exams, grading standards)
Course Management (including supervision of GSIs)
Oversight of Independent Studies, Honors Theses, Prelims, Dissertations
Support for Student Internships, Experiential Learning, Service Learning
Department and Curricular Work (including participation in curriculum revision, departmental efforts to focus on teaching)
Advising and Mentoring
Professional Development and Innovation Around Teaching
I've checked the website, there are many new approaches that the U. of Michigan follows in which it ensures the development and an appropriate channel of communication between the students and the instructor and the other staff surrounding the instructor.
