I am currently working on an endemic tree species, that produces mature seeds (moisture content 51%) which shows both vivipary (30% of total harvested seeds from a tree) and dormancy (~40%) of up to 16- 18 months when kept at constant room temperature. The critical moisture content of this seed is 41%. I am trying to find out the type, as to whether this is the typical nature of a recalcitrant or intermediate seed.

Hard to say. Nature does not create strictly separate boxes, but rather continuums.

Namitha L H If the critical moisture content is 41% , i am not seeing the case of intermediate seeds. It seems a case of recalcitrancy, However, seed might not been germinated due to some other factors. Please share the details of observation by which you found out the dormancy in 40% seeds after 16-18 months.
