For amicable settlement of civil dispute, in brief we say ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) alternatively for settlement of any criminal matter, can we say ACR (Alternative Conflict Resolution) or we will say ADR in Criminal justice system. Would you please give your valuable opinion.
Good question. But I fear this is merely a word difference.
I clearly see no difference in a dispute and a conflict... For me these are similar/identica/interchangable...
But of course you are correct, that they are used differently...
I teach ADR and I explain that there is an escalation from conflict to grievance to dispute. A conflict is neither positive nor negative in nature, but is merely a difference between parties. Eg: I support Man United my husband supports Liverpool. That is a mere difference in opinion. Grievance is the putting on record on a conflict that is starting to become negative. Dispute is the highest escalation of an initially neutral difference into a problem that needs to be resolved. Hope this helps.

Perhaps the difference in jurisdiction accounts for the difference in interpretation? I am in South Africa, so the context can be different than yours or the original poster.

Yvette Basson, thanks for your nice beneficial answer. But I want to make me more confident on the point. I want to make the matter more clear by an example, A beaten B by a stick. Consequently A approached to the court for justice, but the court before starting the trail, given an opportunity to solve the problem by amicable way with the help of the court. According the matter was solved and now both the parties are happy. In this case can we say that ADR applied in criminal justice system.
I perceive conflict as a state of mind whereas a dispute centres upon a contested issue. Mediators manage the disputants' conflict but the disputants are responsible for determination of the dispute.
I am not an English native speaker. But, we tend to use dispute with court lawsuits. whereas, conflict as some previous answers suggested is merely a difference between any two parties. In International Public Laws more often conflict is used. It describes the clash and difference between countries which they are of a finance, politics or security nature.
In international law term "dispute" is related mainly to judicial (resp. arbitration) or non-judicial settlement processes - dispute is basically disagreement about rights or obligations whereas term "conflict" is related mainly to use of force.
In my perspective, we use disputes in civil matters. However, conflicts to be used between laws, states, criminal, different thought.
In the criminal justice system, we say plea bargaining ( an arrangement between a prosecutor and a defendant whereby the defendant pleads guilty to a lesser charge in the expectation of leniency. ).
A bit late to this thread, but the most elegant answer I know is: “Settling disputes is essentially a legal task, whilst reducing and managing conflict is a social welfare task.” (Janet Walker, English family mediation scholar, addressing the Family Mediation Scotland conference in 2004.
