I am looking forward to developing a metamaterial invisibility cloak in the microwave region and I want to know whether there are unresolved challenges associated with this Transformation Optics technology. Any suggestion ill help.
I suggest you read : A full-parameter unidirectional metamaterial cloak for microwaves, Nature Materials 12, p. 25 (2013) to get good insight into current research in the field.
The major challenges associated with cloaking are:
- having a large frequency bandwidth of operation (hard to get because cloaks often use resonators which have a fine frequency linewidth). Some devices are broadband, but the reduction in the scattering is not as efficient.
- making it large compared to the wavelength at which it operates.
The world needs a periodic table of metamaterials so we know what type of metamaterials are needed to realize any range of values of permittivity and permeability.
