I am looking for new interesting fields to do research on power electronics.
Electric Vehicles, microgrids, renewable energy generation, AC–AC Power Electronic Converter .. etc..
I recommend that you can see some famous research centre in Power Electronic, like ETH, CPES, Fraunhofer, ORNL, The University of Tennessee, AAU, and so on.
For hardware, the Wide bandgap devices have huge potential in PE, from the module packaging to the converter and also new topologies which is suitable of using new SiC or GaN devices.
I wish you can make some great contributions to power electronic, good luck.
