I am about to begin my post-graduation thesis work at a top-tier research institution in India and my topics of focus are grid integration of renewable energy, power system analysis and smart grids. I am looking for topics that will be having signficant research value, other than being original and immensely interesting to work on. Earlier I had worked on the load flow studies of a regional grid in India rich in renewables during my summer internship. Any suggestion would be of immense help. Thanks!
In my opinion, there some critical issues under the mentioned theme. The salient issue are:
1. Security of power systems as affected by large sudden changes in the output power from large scale variable resources.
2. Reasonable methods of bulk enegy storage for variable renewable energy plants.
3. Generation system reliability.
4. Communications and tools for reliable smart grids.
