Businesses should protect and develop the environment in order to sustain their existence. This may be not only requirement of social responsibility but also requirement of business sustainability. So, businesses should contribute to improve to environment because of their activities which cause of losses. How can they achieve this?
Manufacturing organizations may adapt the concept of green supply chain management, green manufacturing and green marketing.Thus the product, process and technology will be environment friendly. Therefore manufacturing organization's CSR policy must be a part of organizational strategy and should be a measure of sustainability.

Many manufacturing industries contribute positively to environmental quality while sustaining their own business. The examples are numerous; energy saving light bulbs, water saving taps/showers, solar panels, home insulations, energy efficient cars/TVs/computers/cookers, good produced from recycled materials, biodegradable packings etc,, etc. What is critical is for every manufacturer that produces an environmentally friendly product to ensure their own environmental foot print is kept to a minimum on energy use, carbon emission and the environmentally unfriendly raw or produced materials.

I totally agree qith Dr. Dattagupta. You will find several sources of green supply chain management in Journal of Cleaner Production (for instance). I also recommend you look at the paper of Ahi and Searcy paper (published in 2015 in Journal o Cleaner Production) because they provide comprehensive concepts and classification for green and sustainable chain management. Once firms plan their supply chain, they can achieve best relationships with customers and suppliers in order to implement initiatives as green purchasing, environmental certification, and increase internal procedures to get efficient using of energy and raw material.
