My country (Sri Lanka) is famous for ancient reservoirs built for collecting rainwater for agriculture and domestic purposes. Their history goes beyond few hundred years B.C. but still maintained properly by the state. Their upstream reservations are supposed to preserve as forests. A new trend is using those lands to build hotels for the purpose of tourism (see the attachment). This has become a controversial problem among the farmers, hotel owners and reservoir management institutes. Since this is a common problem of many countries, I would like to open up a discussion among intellectuals to have their views on pros and cons of the matter.
