I need some data or literatures about public transportation ridership in any country around the world and if possible ridership in GCC region and United Arab Emirates. I am doing a research on the public transportation in Abu Dhabi and I am doing the literature review now.

I agree with Chee. Public transport should be cheaper, should be available frequently to meet the demand and should be available on all the routes. There should be interchange facilities where passengers can be dropped off and picked up and connection to other modes such as train, ferry, airport etc should be available. Singapore has best public transport system. Canada and UK are also have good public transport service.
there was a study made for the Saudi ministry of transport in 1992 about the future ridership of SAPTCO (a transit company) It include both intercity and urban ridership.

You may find the attached article useful. It is a study conducted in Surat city (India), having a population of 4.5 million, and having a very typical public transport scenario.
The public transport patronage is very low there, and the study deals with identification of appropriate levels of accessibility parameters such as walking distance, waiting time, and schedule reliability for the bus patronage to rise.
