To be honest I've never found a pure 2nd order kinetic TL maximum from the experimental point of view. Most of the analysed maxima were always close to 1st (usually over that and for synthetic materials). What you mean "the position of a second order peak shifts towards low temperature with increase in irradiation dose" is the way to determine such behaviour. From the theoretical point of view one of the best publication is

R. Chen. On the order of kinetics in the study of thermoluminescence. J. Phys. D: Appl. Phys., 16 (1983) L107-L114

My experience with natural materials is that the complex structure would be mostly associated with a continuum in the trap distribution that can be tested using the Tstop mehod. I hope it could help you.

But I am unable to find any practical evidence on this.

Someway, your article is relevant to my question. 

However, literature shows that the main glow peak of Al2O3:C follow the general order kinetics (b~1.2 to 1.5). The apparent second-order behavior at high dose is may be due to overlapping of the main peak with a secondary peak that present just behind the main peak. In fact, due to the overlapping component of the secondary peak that exist behind the main peak, the trapping parameters of the main peak in Al2O3:C depend on the irradiation dose. Therefore, I am still waiting for some article that deals with the exact second order kinetics.

From theoretical point of view, a second order kinetics peak presents a shift to lower Tmax values with increasing dose. However is your material yielding a single peak or overlapping ones?

I am not getting this issue with any material. The material that I am doing my research is Al2O3:C,Mg. The peaks in this material show the first order behavior.

Just for some other interest, I am searching the experimental verification of the theoretical conclusion about the shifting of peak maximum of a second order peak to lower temperature with increasing dose.

In fact let me ask you this. Have you checked the material you are currently studying for thermal quenching? The quartz 110 along with the ordinary a alumina yield first order behaviour. This is due to the presence of thermal quenching. In case that we could circumvent the thermal quenching (for example by reconstruction of the glow curve) the material might yield higher order. I would strongly suggest such an experiment. I can assist you.

Let me finally comment on your question by suggesting that in order to monitor second order of kinetics it would be better to start from a saturating high dose, check the Tmax and by simply reducing the dose you expect that the Tmax increases.

Let me check my data during the following week so that in case that I find something I can send it to you.

Yes, I did the correction for thermal quenching. We have reported a detailed kinetic analysis of the main peak of Al2O3:C,Mg in a paper. I will send you the paper soon.

But my search is still ON....

Because,

1. In that paper, authors mentioned that “the intensity of P4 was only a few percent of the total TL response at any exposure level. Therefore, the behaviour of the main glow peak is dominated by P2 and P3.” (Please see the last two sentences of the 1st paragraph of result and discussion section)

This means the main peak is not an isolated peak.

2. In the deconvolution analysis, they found that the peaks follow general order kinetics (b= 1.299 to 1.387). But they suspected that the peak is affected by thermal quenching, thus they observed the value of b smaller than the actual value. They reported, “The thermal quenching effect narrowed the peak shape and led to a smaller kinetic order than the actual value.” (Please see the last paragraph of conclusion section).

But it was a speculation. It does not justify that the peak will follow 2nd order kinetics.

In my opinion, the behavior observed for decreasing Tm of peak 2 with increasing the doses is clear in Fig.4. The authors reported this behavior and gave some theoretical explanations.

In cases of multiple glow-peaks, the value of the order of kinetic, b, does not reveal the actual kinetic process of the respective peak, i.e. the low b value does not necessarily mean negligible trapping compared to the recombination probability (please see Pagonis and Kitis, 2012; Sadek et al, 2014). This is due to the competition effect of some deep traps. Perhaps the only theoretical case in which the order of kinetic may reveal the real process of the respective peak in a multiple glow-peak structure  is that case reported by Chen and Pagonis (2013) for the last peak in a series obtained by a model of a single recombination center and multiple traps. However, If one assumes that the deconvoluted glow-peak (regardless to the super position principle) is OTOR peak, then its behavior with the doses may indicate to the TL kinetics process regardless to the value of b.
