Under the influence of TM mode, the Dielectric Resonator Antenna surface can be treated as a real magnetic wall as relative permittivity approaches infinity. The magnetic wall effect causes the input resistance to increase and radiation to decrease.

The contrast in dielectric constant and thus impedance results in the reflection coefficient approaching +/-1 depending which side of the boundary you are, and transmission approaching zero.
