The challenge currently being experienced by the Indonesian people in implementing metaverse technology in the higher education curriculum is that there are still many senior lecturer resources who are still slow in keeping up with current technological developments, so this is one of the challenges that can hinder the implementation of metaverse in the implementation of learning in the field.
Opportunities for implementing the metaverse in the university curriculum include; firstly, the recruitment of new lecturers who have many abilities in implementing metaverse, so that it will encourage the smooth implementation of metaverse in curriculum implementation, secondly, the supporting capacity of government policies that encourage and provide facilities that support the implementation of metaverse, thirdly, metaverse receives support from the human resources of the gerasi group Z, so that in the next 10 years it will be possible for the application of the metaverse in the curriculum in universities to develop very rapidly.
Metaverse is a three-dimensional virtual space technology innovation which is currently making many people curious both from its very rapid development and its implementation which is starting to be widely used in various sectors of life. This research study discusses the challenges and opportunities of the metaverse in the world of education, as well as how it can be applied in the world of education. The research method used is a literature study by collecting library data from various scientific journal sources that are relevant to the topic discussed. The research design used was a narrative review. Data collection was summarized from international journal articles, accredited and non-accredited national journals, proceedings, theses and theses from 2017-2022. The research results show that the popularity of Metaverse has reached its peak in the last few months and the acceleration of metaverse technology in the world of education has been seen with the existence of digital learning media applications based on augmented reality and virtual reality. Metaverse is believed to be able to overcome existing limitations in the world of education, such as class capacity limits due to the pandemic, distance and time limits for entering class, and so on. With the concept of a virtual world, online learning can be done more interactively without eliminating the student's learning experience.
