My lab is looking for a reliable anti-c-fos antibody for IHC in free-floating brain sections, and I have repeatedly been told that SC-52 is the go-to in this application. I have spoken with Santa Cruz, and it appears that they are discontinuing all polyclonal antibody production beginning next year, meaning that this is not a viable option to create a new protocol.
Has anyone tested (and perhaps validated) an alternative anti-fos antibody for IHC in mouse? Clonality is not a major concern. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Dar Rogan, I know this problem from Santa Cruz. especially when this happens during a runnig study. Meanwhile we are working with a rb c-foz- AB from "Synaptic Sytems"(www.sysy.com; cat# 226 003) with good results. The image I add shows Cortex rgions from PFA perfused rat brain. So far I know does it work on mice as well. Good luck!

In addition to Santa Cruz antibodies, Abcam has one rabbit polyclonal c-Fos antibody ab7963 used in immunohistochemistry - free floating section on mouse samples at 1:500 (reference: Liu et al. J Comp Neurol 2011). Also, EMD Millipore offers one rabbit polyclonal c-Fos antibody PC38 used in immunohistochemistry - free floating section on mouse samples at 1:5000 (reference: Stanley et al., Nature 2016, fig s1c).
