Matlab is one of the most powerful simulation software. There are many textbooks that teach you how to use it depending on your research interest but they start all by talking about the main functions such as graphics or linear algebra. I recommend you the book titled Essential Matlab for Engineers and Scientists written by Hahn. I can send it to you if you are interested. Just send me your email privately! Ciao!

I think nothing is better than the official guide by Mathworks:

You can go through the basic topics and then move to the ones that fits best to your own interests.

An alternative is the book "Experimenting with Matlab" by Moler:

It covers only the basic topics but it is highly interactive.
