It sounds like you already have learned one thing: one needs some advertisement for your business.
I just joined a small consulting company and my learnings thus far is that the advantage is the flexibility and the opportunity that consulting offers. Having said that, this inherent flexibility can also be a risk, as it is possible that you may not have projects top work on for a long period of time or spend some time on business development activities before you win your first work.
A similar situation is holding shares of a company and owning a company. Different levels of risk is involved in these two cases. Aspects such as responsibility, profits and loss etc. will also be somewhat similar. In addition to all these, the knowledge and wisdom available with a single owner will definitely be very much limited compared to that of a company having a consortium of consultants. Accordingly, the scope of work will be limited.

My intention is not to bring research projects to customers. I recognized that so many companies are not adequately paying attentions on the base of their business (e.g. manufacturing, R&D, investments, etc.). For example, it is often investors in CleanTech are making an investment decision based on friend advices, financial and psychological factors and, usually, the base science of the technology is not properly evaluated. Therefore, my goal is to provide professional business consulting in science and technology to improve business for institutions related to the following areas, such as investment, manufacturing, R&D, government, education, and legal profession.
