I am looking for three different inflammatory arthritis models to screen plant extracts. However, CFA, SCW, peristane, m-BSA and CII arthritis models are available. Presently, am using CFA model, wish to explore my plant extract in Peristane and m-BSA model of arthritis. How these animal models of inflammatory arthritis can contribute or add knowledge to the data?
I was quite happy with Freud's C Adjuvant model, More or less FCA model also mimics human arthritis..Do we really need to repeat the same experiment on other models ?? I consider the animal ethical aspect..

If you are interested in screening plant extracts for rheumatoid arthritis and other types of inflammatory arthritis, any of those you mention is Ok and I agree with B. Demirci that you don't need various models, as they are similar in terms of pathological changes and mechanisms of disease induction. However, if you are interested in osteoarthritis you need to use a mechanical instability model (anterior cruciate ligament transection or meniscal transection) or the monosodium iodoacetate method which nicely mimic human OA. The later has the advantage of developing faster (~30 days). There are also genetically modified animals (the str/ort mice are available from commercial sources) that spontaneously develop OA, although it takes several months.
In a study, i have used Freud's C Adjuvant model, and it was quite satisfactory.
