Prof. Anatol Badach has summarized the application domain. The next issue is the security vulnerabilities and its mitigations.

@ Dr. K.C. Okafor, you are very correct. Prof. Badach's picture summary of IoT is quite motivating, but like you pointed out, I am also worried about the security challenges of IoT. There is no doubt that interconnecting different system/electronic devices through a variety of technologies will surely raise the issue of attacks on security and privacy and this in no doubt will pose serious problems if their vulnerabilities are not carefully investigated and addressed. I will wait to hear from professionals in this area expertise.

It can be termed as an evolution of wireless sensors networks......so any particular area with sensor measuring transmitting data, IoT can be applied.

@ Dr. Modestus, we are currently working on a novel machine learning algorithm that seeks to secure the IoT Edge layer with absolute precision. Already, we have developed a novel architecture for IoT integration considering the Fog orchestration layer into the cloud. I will soon release the publication once the embargo period elapses. So much research is still going on in this area. Thanks for the question post Ok.

An example will clear the idea:

You have saved your home wifi password in your mobile phone, whenever you get in the home it automatically connects with your mobile and when you leave the phone it disconnects..

here IoT comes like.. Connecting wifi Router with Lighting system of your home, as you reach to home and your mobile connects wifi , the router will recognize you and automatically switch on the lights of your home, and as you go out from home, disconnecting the internet shall turn the lights off also.. also called as Smart Home...simple example of IoT
