Article Social Informatics

Social informatics in recent years, attracted much attention of scholars and practitioners. The methods, tools and results of social informatics are widely used especially in systems to support management decisions.

Social informatics is a multi-disciplinary perspective dealing with the social consequences of the design, implementation, and use of ICTs over a wide range of social and organizational settings. Applications of information-communication technologies (ICT) in various areas of social activities are very often associated also with the idea of social informatics in the areas of e-governance, law enforcement, economics, education, healthcare  that can enable government to work better, yields higher revenue growth and costs less, apart from servicing citizens' needs. Studies in the area of social informatics have facilitated understanding the design, development, and operation of usable information systems, including electronic forums, digital libraries and other similar ways.

There is a large following for this topic. Try a search 'Big data' and or 'Big Data mining".  Business and policy makers use digital data mining for determining business strategy but researchers including medical, business and sociology researchers use net miner and similar products to assess trends. I have recently submitted a paper on big data collection and diabetes control for example.
